2010 World Equestrian Games
Lexington, KY travel information

The Kentucky Horse Park just outside of Lexington, Kentucky has been chosen as the site of the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
This is the first time that this world championship event has ever been held in the United States and it is expected to bring nearly 500,000 visitors and participants from all over the world! The games will also bring over $150 million dollars into the state of Kentucky.
The city only has around around 300,000 residents so this event will actually double the size of the population this Fall.
There are not enough hotel rooms in Lexington, KY to support so many visitors so people are actually renting their homes or rooms in their houses during the event. If you are planning to visit during this time you should make your travel plans now!
The World Equestrian Games will be held Sept 25 – Oct 10 and there are 600,000 tickets that are already on sale by Ticketmaster.
There will be lots to see and do inside of the Kentucky Horse Park that day even if you don’t pay for the more expensive competition tickets. Hundreds of vendors, equine organizations, and demonstrations will be going on during the event.
Alltech, the maker of Kentucky Ale, will be sponsoring the 2010 World Equestrian Games (over $10 million) and already there are new buildings being constructed and road improvements being made in preparation all over the city. Alltech will also be throwing a big festival with music and performing arts at night during the games, you can learn more on the Alltech Fortnight Festival blog.
The WEG is made up of eight equestrian disciplines: jumping, reining, dressage, eventing, endurances, para dressage, vaulting, and driving.
The first event of “reigning” starts at 09:00am but plan to arrive much earlier. You can learn more about the disciplines and watch videos on the official World Equestrian Games website.
